History
The “Alte Kanzlei” building in Andernach was built in 1677 by order of the Archbishop of Kur-Köln. The rooms built in the renaissance early baroque style originally served the High Knights Court of lay assessors as a councilmen and historians’ house. The building represented the worldly power and thus formed a beautiful contrast to the opposite Himmerod monastery’s collegiate church. The Nuppeney civil servant’s family from Kur-Köln used the building as a “sheriff’s house” from the 18th century on.
In 1980 the house was meticulously converted into a hotel. In the process one of the most important tasks for the architect and executors was to maintain the museum-like character.
