History
The house was built in 1911 in art nouveau style, the forerunner of the German Jugendstil movement. It was a gift from Prince von Waldeck-Pyrmont to his doctor. Medicine also played a role in the building’s further course of history: in the first and second world wars the army used it several times as a military hospital.
After the war the great hall was used as a dance café, in the building’s basement was the “Kaiserkeller” restaurant. The house was empty for eight years in the seventies before Theo Schene acquired it. After another transformation Wolfgang Schene has been running the “Kaiserhof” since 2000. The art collection exhibited in the hotel is quite remarkable.
