History
The “Deutsches Haus” was built in 1440 by Hans von Drechsel-Deufstetten in Dinkelsbühl as a patrician house. Around 1600 the building acquired one of the most beautiful half-timbered façades in South Germany, which art historians regard as one of the “greatest achievements of the German late Renaissance”. Already in 1575 it was bequeathed that the landlord Peter Drechsel was an innkeeper and mead producer who began the tradition of formidable hospitality very early on.
This tradition has always been remembered in the “Deutsches Haus” to the guests’ benefit. Today the hotel in the medieval imperial city of Dinkelsbühl is one of the most beautiful hotels in South Germany; the 4-star hotel combines tradition and private hospitality.
