History
Ladbergen was first mentioned in records in a certificate from the Freckenhorst convent in 950. The history of the stage coach stop for mail services can be traced back to the 17th century in fact to 17th June 1643 to be precise. On this date the royal empire’s postal service took over the messenger post connection between Münster and Osnabrück, with a stop in Ladbergen. Since the 1st September 1971 the post office has been resident in the present day Gasthaus zur Post.
It has been authenticated that preliminary negotiations about the conclusion of the Peace of Westphalia took place in 1644 in the rooms of the “Gasthaus zur Post” which four years later ended the devastating Thirty Years War.
