Protect cultural heritage, pass it down to the next generation
The German Foundation for the Protection of Historical Buildings and Monuments [Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz]: for journeys back in time
HISTORIK HOTELS INTERNATIONAL works in close partnership with the GERMAN Foundation for the Protection of Historical Buildings and Monuments, under the patronage of the German president. All of our hotels stand out thanks to their historical past and distinctive features. A large number are listed buildings, having been identified by the state as protected sites of historical interest. For our guests, staying in one of these is a real and unique pleasure.
"Preserve cultural heritage - so that the past has a future"
that's the motto of the German Foundation for the Protection of Historical Buildings and Monuments which was created in 1985 under the patronage of the German president. As the biggest private initiative committed to protection of sites of historical interest across Germany, it has two remits: to protect threatened cultural monuments and to increase awareness of the protection of historical buildings and monuments among the general public in order to get as many people on board as possible.
With over 370 million euros, the foundation has so far carried out protection and restoration work at more than 3,000 sites. Funding comes from lottery [GlücksSpirale] revenue and the donations of over 170,000 sponsors. Nevertheless, it can currently only meet the grant applications of a small number of monuments in need. The task of preserving churches, monasteries, castles, fortified castles, technical monuments, parks and town houses is too big. Many are at risk, their future often uncertain.
In addition to supporting projects, the German Foundation for the Protection of Historical Buildings and Monuments lobbies for many different campaigns and initiatives to convince as many people as possible of the need to preserve valuable structures. It promotes the rescue and preservation of our cultural heritage through exhibitions, presentations, school and youth projects, publications, further education centres, monument trips and the magazine MONUMENTE.
