Schlosshotel Iglhauser

History

The present “Schlosshotel Iglhauser” with its massive medieval walls emerged from the former castle brewery, the foundations of which go back to a “Frohnhaus” erected there in 1200. In the early times, the bishops of Salzburg used to impose a “tavern monopoly” on their subjects; but those days are long gone. Today, visitors of the erstwhile “Hoftafern” (Court Tavern) dating back to 1398 and now idyllically situated on the Mattsee lakefront go there on their own free will and have good reasons to do so.
