History
The patrician house in the Herrngasse was built in the 13th century and originally served a Franciscan monastery as a bake house. The monks stored their wine in the cellar. The emperor and crown princes rested their weary heads in the current day “Gotisches Haus”. According to one anecdote the 14-year old crown prince who later became Emperor Maximilian also stayed overnight here in 1474.
The present day “Gotisches Haus” hotel exists since 1962 and was extensively renovated in the years between 1969 and 1971. Then in 2002 to 2003 the hotel was elaborately redesigned and completely renovated again carefully observing the historical monument protection principles.
