History
Scientific investigations have shown that the timber for the roof structure of the “Storch” was felled in the winter of 1295/96. The half-timbered building therefore can be dated back to the year 1296. The unusual size of the building is also remarkable. It measures 30 metres in length and 13 metres in width and thus encompasses an area of almost 400 square metres.
This makes the impressive structure not just the oldest known civil timbered building in Bad Windsheim but also the only one in the whole of Central Franconia from before 1300. There is only one comparable building in Bavaria and there are only about a dozen timbered houses in existence from this period in the whole of Germany.
